The Wancher Dream Pen Tokiwa-Iro is a special limited edition created to commemorate Wancher’s 10th anniversary — a milestone celebrating a decade of craftsmanship, artistic exploration and devotion to the traditions of Japanese writing culture.
Produced in a strictly limited quantity, Tokiwa-Iro was conceived not simply as an anniversary fountain pen, but as a lasting expression of gratitude to the collectors and writing enthusiasts who have accompanied Wancher throughout its journey. With its distinctive Tsugaru Urushi finish and deeply symbolic colour palette, it is a writing instrument designed to become an enduring part of a refined collection.
The name “Tokiwa-Iro” (???) refers to the timeless green of evergreen trees. In Japanese culture, the colour is associated with permanence, prosperity, good fortune and longevity — a beauty that remains unchanged through the passing of time. This symbolism perfectly reflects Wancher’s philosophy: to create writing instruments inspired by exceptional artistic traditions and designed to be appreciated for generations.
At the heart of the Dream Pen Tokiwa-Iro lies the remarkable art of Tsugaru Urushi. Each pen is individually handcrafted by skilled lacquer artisans in Aomori, Japan, using traditional techniques that require exceptional patience and precision.
The surface is created through the Kara-nuri technique, in which multiple layers and different shades of green lacquer are carefully applied, polished and refined. The process is repeated over a period of approximately three to six months, gradually revealing the complex depth, texture and visual character for which Tsugaru lacquerware is renowned.
The resulting finish is wonderfully organic. Subtle variations in colour and pattern ensure that every Tokiwa-Iro possesses its own individual character, making each fountain pen genuinely unique. As the Urushi lacquer matures through use and exposure over time, its colours can gradually become richer and more luminous, allowing the pen to develop a distinctive character of its own.
Beneath the traditional Japanese craftsmanship lies an ebonite body, selected for its warm feel, durability and excellent balance in the hand. The Dream Pen’s generous proportions provide a substantial yet comfortable writing experience, while the compact airtight cap is designed to help reduce ink evaporation and prevent the nib from drying during periods of non-use.
The Tokiwa-Iro is fitted with a high-quality #6 JoWo stainless steel nib, available in either a gold-tone or silver-tone finish. Combined with a reliable plastic feed, it delivers a smooth, dependable and well-balanced writing experience suitable for both everyday use and discerning fountain pen enthusiasts.
The filling system is compatible with both converter and European International Standard cartridges, offering convenient and versatile ink options.
With a closed length of approximately 155.2 mm and a maximum barrel diameter of approximately 15.5 mm, the Dream Pen has an elegant yet substantial presence in the hand. Uncapped, the body measures approximately 88 mm from the section to the end of the barrel, while the grip and nib assembly provide comfortable proportions for extended writing sessions. Despite its generous size, the pen weighs approximately 26 g, maintaining a pleasantly balanced and refined feel.
Every detail of the Dream Pen Tokiwa-Iro reflects the meeting of traditional Japanese artistry and contemporary fountain pen craftsmanship. It is a piece created for collectors who value not only the performance of a fine writing instrument, but also the history, symbolism and human craftsmanship behind it.
Presented in an elegant traditional Japanese wooden box, the Tokiwa-Iro is accompanied by a protective Pen Kimono, certificate, instructional materials, converter and cartridge, creating a presentation worthy of this commemorative edition.
